A bit of Heaven on Earth

Meg organized the first annual Jay and Barb Jenkins Family reunion. It was a huge success. We went to Lava Hot Springs for two nights. We camped and swam and did some tubing on the river. We ate the best meals, had activities for the kiddos and sat around the camp fire. We enjoyed being together and just plain old having a super wonderfu time. We missed Elder Jenkins and look forward to him being with us next year. We really don't want him any other place right now than where he is at. I say this often but I have to say it again. I love my family and I am so grateful for each one. I thank each one of you for a wonderful new tradition and a super weekend.

When the Fremont High School marching band started to play "God Bless America" at the July 4th parade, I got so emotional. I had all of my children and grandchildren around all weekend long. Blake is exactly where I want him to be and he is doing awesome. Once again I was overwhelmed at all of my blessings. Boy I do love my family.

My little brother lives in Texas and one of my sisters lives in Idaho. It is a too rare occasion that all 4 of can get together. Scott was in town for his sons graduation from the U of U. We had a great visit with him and his wife Rose. It was so great to see them.

Jay and go to St George every April for Utah League of Cities and Towns. Knowing that Shannon and Jed would be having a baby sometime in the month, I was very hopeful that it would not happen until after we got back home. Just as we were getting in the car to head for St George, Shannon called and said she was at the hospital. Kael Davis arrived 9 days early just as we were pulling into Cedar City. Needless to say I could hardly wait to get home and see this beautiful little guy. What a sweetheart.

Kind of a funny picture. I am watching Jake and JoEllen's girls (my nephew and his wife's girls). Meg and Jess came over with all their girls and Adam just to hang out. The kids did really great getting to know each other. Here is Abigail telling all of the others to smile. Sarah is not real sure of it all yet, but by the end of the day, they were climbing on the bunk beds and having a great time togethers. This month we celebrated our 31st anniversary. It can't possibly be that long ago that I was a teenager and still living at home with my parents, yet on the other hand, being a teenager and living at home with my parents seems like a different book I read or a movie a saw. Once upon a time Jay had very thick, curly, black hair and I weighed 117 lbs. Once again, that must have been a different movie. Things have certainly changed. Especially how much more I love Jay. He is my best friend.

Just another fun day. We went up to the North Ogden Divide trail head and hiked for a bit, stopped and had some lunch. I think Abigail thought we had gone 25 miles but really it was only a bit down hill and a bit longer uphill. The weather was beautiful and the leaves are showing their red. What can I say, it has been the by far the busiest summer ever for me. I am slow anyway with the blogging and now it has been non exisistent for over 3 months. Once again the most important things in my life is family and we love love love being grandpa and grandma more than anything!!! With a great addition of two more grandaughters. Hopefully I will get caught up on some of our summers activities. The pictures here are just one of our great Sunday afternoons.

My sweet and wonderful family made turning 50 great. I cannot begin to thank them for a HUGE surprise. The party was so fun. They completely took me off guard. Having Luke and Lisa there was shocking and Jed almost was there, but I had a great phone call from him earlier in the day. We had dinner, balloons, cake, gifts, husband, kids and grandkids. It doesn't get any better than this. Thanks so much and I love all of you so much. I was busy being at my party that I didn't get any phote, but the girls all did. You are great!!! Turning 50 was so easy.

I don't know how this tradition got started but it did and I love it. Every Friday is lunch with my mom and my sister Diane and my other sister Marilyn when she can join us from Idaho. Somehow they pulled off a surprise lunch for my birthday when they did not even know that I could go to lunch because I had Meg and Ben's kids while Meg was in the hospital with Hailey. They took me to Maddox and had balloons and a cake. Jay was able to join us. I have to say that I don't feel like 50. I love the black flowers in this cake, it really was a beautiful cake.

Could not have asked for a greater birthday present. This newest little grandbaby was not supposed to come for two more weeks. What a thrill it is to have her here a bit early, just in time to start celebrating a 50th birthday for me, another post to follow on the birthday parties. My photography of sweet Hailey leaves a lot to be desired because I am so busy watching her. I did not get any good pictures at the hospital but I will be sure to as the days go by and she grows like a weed.

Saturday before Easter was such a fun day. We had an Easter egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa's house. We had hotdogs and potato salad (it was too cold to cook our hotdogs outside, so we ate indoors) and then went out to find Easter eggs. The kids were all so much fun and they had a great time. We missed Jed, Luke, Lisa and Ben. I will always look forward to time spent all together.

I gave up on blogging when I lost my downloaded pitures of Brent coming home from Cambodia after being gone for two years. I feel so bad about not blogging since before Brent returned home from Cambodia. I downloaded the pictures from the airprot and looked at them on this computor and now I cannot find them at all. I am so computor illiterate. Suffice it to say, HE LOOKS GREAT!!! I am so grateful to have him home. Now that he is here, I can honestly say it feels like he was never even gone. He is already busy with school (WSU) and track at WSU. I know that he serve Heavenly Father well and has planted many seeds. Welcome Home Bub. Thanks to my dear sweet niece Natalie (Nate's wife), I now have pictures of Grandma Dixie's 75th surprise birthday party. THANKS SO MUCH NATALIE! Grandma was pretty surprised.

We had a really great surprise 75th birthday party for Grandma Dixie at Maddox. It is really sad that I didn't check my batteries in my camera before I left the house. I only got a couple of pictures before they completely died. Grandma Dixie, both of my sisters, all of mom's grandchildren that live in the state (10) and their spouses. It took some real effort to keep it a secret, but we did it. I am so grateful for such a wonderful mother and hope she has many more birthdays to spend with us.

A favorite thing for me is a Fall picnic. It is the best time of year. We had a great afternoon at a fun park where we ate pizza, hot chocolate and sugar cookies. Afterwards we went and picked out pumpkins at a fruit stand. It really doesn't matter what I get to do, it is just my favorite thing to be with my family and especially grandkids. Luke

The close to a really great summer. Labor Day was a wonderful day to spend with family. We had a swim/dutch oven pary. The food was yummy thanks to Jay and Jed. Do you think Carly liked the watermelon best?

Brent's release date is December 18th. The time has gone so quickly, it is shocking. Last month he was made AP. He is very, very busy, he loves his companion, says he is a great guy. The pictures posted below are of the one thing he wanted to do before he left the country. I don't know what this boy was thinking!!! Yes, that is a fried tarantula that Bub ate. You can buy them at every corner convenience store along with any other fried insect you might take a fancy to. If this is the kind of food they eat over there, no wonder he looks a little thinner to me, maybe I ought to go and live there for a while, I know I would rather go hungry than eat insects. Crazy boy!

Later this evening we had a welcome home bar b que for Thomas Luke (uncle Luke) because he has been gone to a Scout camp in California for two months where he was Scout Director over the field activities (gun range). It is sure good to have him home again. It was so nice to have everyone together again except for Brent and Blake who are in Cambodia and Colombia and we are grateful that they are there and not here.

We went on on a wonderful trip to Portland Oregon with Jay's brother Scott and his wife Becky. We drove all along the Columbia river, it was so beautiful. We stayed in a great hotel downtown Portland. We took a drive up to Mount Hood. WOW! Spectacular! Other than me being postively sick and having to spend an entire day in bed, we had a super time. Great food, great scenery, great conversation and company. Thanks Scott and Becky.

What a wonderful morning that we had with the Jenkins family celebrating our great country! We started out with the parade. The mayor always "gets" to ride in the parade. This year we were in a beautiful horse pulled wagon. Luke and Abigail got to ride with us and throw out candy. They were having so much fun throwing the candy, they didn't even realize that they were not the ones collecting the candy. Afterwards we came back to our home and had our traditional breakfast of breakfast casseroles, cinnamon rolls and fresh fruit. We celebrate this holiday with Jay's brothers and sister and all of their families. I love all of the great traditions!

July 3rd is just as exciting to those of us who are from Plain City as Christmas is. We start the Patriotic Holiday off with a bar b que on the 3rd, followed by fireworks. We now play it safe and have only a Utah legal show, no more of the super Wyoming fireworks. Always a sleepover at grandma and grandpa's for those who want. Parents have to stay with children. Abigail was sure she did not like the noise and spent most of the evening in the house with Beau. Adam curled up tight to his Dad and did not move. Carly was delighted with the sights and sounds and clapped and giggled. Luke had a blast with so many extended cousins around.

This is the sign that we found on our picnic table in the campground that we stayed in with Jay's brother Glen and his wife Marie. I am sure glad that they invited us to stay in their beautiful trailor instead of outside. We went up above the quaint little town of Oakley Utah. We had a great time visiting and Jay and Glen are the mighty fishermen. Thanks for the invite, we a wonderful time and enjoyed the absolute beauty.

We have had such a great time getting Blake ready to leave on his mission and I realized that I haven't had anything posted about Bub for long time. He has been gone 18 months. SHOCKING! The time has truly flown by. He is doing great. He is so happy and he absolutely loves doing what he is doing. I don't have any pictures of the other Elder Jenkins yet from the MTC, but he is also doing great. He was in a very special meeting this past Sunday where a very small and select group of Elders were able to bless and pass the Sacrament for all the new mission presidents (Bub's included), all the General Authorities including all 12 Apostles, and the First Presidency. What an honor and privilege Blake has just had. I love missionaries and the work they do.

We had a great family night tonight. It was Plain City night at the Ogden Raptors. Mayor Jenkins got to throw the first pitch out. That is him on the mound. I don't have much of a lens to get the far away pics, but that is him and he did a fine job. We are not at all sure who the woman is that wanted so badly to pose with Meg and Ben's family. We missed Luke, Lisa, Adam and Carly, and of course Bub and Blake, but we wouldn't want the last two any other place than where they are:)

When Jay and I found each other 30 (I know it is hard to believe because I can't believe it either) years ago, we also found another couple that just got engaged too. They are regulars still to hang out with on the weekends. Their oldest and youngest are the same ages as ours (we just got two more in) and their grandkids are around the same ages also. This weekend we went out on a limb and did something different instead of "dinner and a movie". We went camping with them and had a great time in spite of the most incredible down pour we had for a couple of hours. It did clear up and we had great food and even better company! This is Brent and Holli Speechly and somewhere behind us on the hill side there really is a moose. We saw him.

When Luke found it was my birthday, he told his mom that grandma had to have a birthday party with cake and balloons. What a great surprise that was for me. We met at the park for our usual Friday afternoon lunch. I could not have had a better party or surprise.

Blake's farewell was this past Sunday. We had a great day with so many friends and family all together. Blake gave a super talk and we had lunch afterwards. We are so grateful for all of the support of so many. Here we have a picture with all here except Bub, who couldn't make it. This is the end of our season of raising a family and sending out missionaries. Very bittersweet! We are so pleased with Blake's decision to serve the people in Barranquilla, Colombia. We love you Blake.

We miss them and their family that mostly all live in Texas too. Anytime is a great time for family to get together. I need to find out how to put more pictures on in one posting. Once again we made our yearly trek down to Moab, Utah for our annual Easter Jeep Safari Weekend. Only this time we stayed in tents in a great little RV park and we didn't go on a jeep trail and we had only a part of our family. We had great time though. It got a little chilly and wet, but the scenery and the company were awesome. Meg, Ben and their family were able to go, and Ben's parents, Grandpa Larry and Grandma Sharla came with us. We visited Dead Horse Point and one day. Blake and I hiked up to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park to watch the sun to rise the next morning. We never saw the sun (because of HEAVY cloud cover), but we sure had a great time hiking up in the very pitch black using only flashlights. It was kind of erry, we were the only ones there and it was very dark. The sun did come up, we just never saw it and then we hiked down getting rained on the last 10 minutes of the hike. These are pretty much the only pics that I got because once again I missplaced my camera. Super memories again with our Moab trip!!

My niece Amy and her husband Adam and their two boys came to Utah for a visit from Texas. We had pizza night so everyone could visit. We had a full house at my mom's home. Here is a picture of Grandma Great Dixie and 12 of 17 great grandchildren. There is at least one more on the way in August, any others?? It was quite a challenge to get them all on the couch at the same time and only one crying. We didn't even attempt to get them all to look at the camera and smile at the same time, at least Grandma Great is smiling. There is one 9 year old and the rest are 4 and under. We created happy memories tonight. I love my family.

After 4 boys and 28 years, some how I was persuaded to allow this to happen against everything that I believe. Blake's jeep died for good and this is what he and his Dad thought would be a good replacement. I am still not too sure about this. Now when Brent gets home he will think that he can ride this too. Go figure. Adam doesn't look like he is too sure about the bike either.

It's official! We now have a fourth missionary that is going foreign. Blake is entering the Provo, Utah MTC on June 10 where he will prepare to teach the people in the Columbia Barranquilla Mission in the Spanish language. What an exciting day for the Jenkins home.

Once a month Jay's siblings get together for dinner. Each has a turn to host. They can pick the restaurant of their choice or have it at their own home. Tonight we went to his sister Sue's home. She fixed a wonderful dinner that we all ate too much of. The conversation ALWAYS turns to politics, church and the "good old days". We laugh over the same stories that have been told for at least the last almost 30 years that I have been a part of this family. This is a great family that I am grateful to part of. I love you all!!!

This was our Valentine that we sent to Uncle Bub so far away in Cambodia. We wanted to make sure that he knows who we are and how much we love him even though some of us have not met him yet. We can hardly wait to see him and for him to see us. We love him so much. We do love you Uncle Bub!

I am a little slow when it comes to blogging, some of you have pointed this out to me. So here is a new post or two.

A couple of weekends ago Jay and I drove up to visit my sister and her husband in Thatcher Idaho. They have a great place there. Jay was in 7th heaven. Mark has his own gun range in his own back yard. Mark has a shed with a wood burning stove so they could come in, get warm, reload their guns, have a cup of hot chocolate and head back outside to shoot. So, if we ever move again, you will find that we have moved in with Marilyn and Mark.

We did it!!! Our last one is now an Eagle Scout. Actually he earned it last April, but we just had his Court of Honor tonight. Great accomplistments for all 4 of our boys. Jed and Luke both helped to swear Blake in. At this point I do have to mention our girls who both earned their Young Womanhood award. You kids are great!
It is pretty cool that Aunt Becky has gotten to be part of Brent and Blake's Eagle Court of Honor.

I know that my last blog was about Brent, but today is his hump day. How fast time flies. The picture of the church is the LDS chapel. We are sure proud of him. I am sure the next year will pass just as quickly as the first.

Christmas is always my favorite time of year. I love getting together with all of my loved ones. Christmas Eve is really a special treat with the family coming over for dinner, program and gifts. Christmas Day was especially wonderful. This is our last Christmas with Blake before his mission. It was great to spend the day with him and enjoyhis company. It is so great having him in our home as an "only child" , I am not sure he feels the same way though.

The girls have pictures of our Christmas Eve, so instead of blogging those pictures, I put some new ones up of Bub. His phone call Christmas evening with the whole family there had to be my highlight of the day. He looks so great and is doing so great. He is so happy and healthy. He has been gone just short of 1 year. I CANNOT believe how fast the time is speeding by!

We had another great day today as we crossed off another great idea to "get excited for Christmas". We bundled up because is was 25 degrees and headed off to Christmas Village in down town Ogden. All five grandbabies were there with their mothers. Carly and Beau were there also even though they were so bundled up in their strollers to be seen. Afterwards we all went to Grandma Barb's house and had grilled cheese sandwiches and hot chocolate and sat around and visited. It's all good!

I feel so blessed to be able to have so many of these special day. Today Beau Lewis was blessed. The 3 generation picture is pretty cool. We have Jay Lewis, Jed Lewis and Beau Lewis.

It is Abigail's 2nd birthday today. I had several pictures of her, but everyone of them were very blurry and had to be deleted. These are the only ones of her where she was holding even slightly still and one of them I had to sneak and take while she wasn't looking,but I did get a great picture of Carly and Dad and one of Luke.

Meg, Jess and I all had the same picture on our blogs of the kids and I thought that maybe I should get something different up. I decided that I would put Bub on and let everyone know that he is doing really great! He is happy and healthy and that is no small feat if you knew what he ate. I cannot believe that he has been gone almost a year (January 9th). Time has flown by! I look so forward to getting the next missionary out.

Skunks, Pebbles, Cats, Count Draculas, Clowns Oh My...............Oh what fun Halloween was this year. It is tradition to cometo Grandpa and Grandma's house to treat or treat and have cheese soup and lots of candy. What a great night to be with family. Some little ones had more candy than others. Can you guess which ones and do you think their mom and dad ever got them to sleep?

One the best things about the fall, are is the hot dog cookouts. We had one this past Saturday. Jed and Blake also were working on Blake's jeep. What beautiful weather we are having.

Friday October 17th was my Mom's birthday. My Mom, my sister Diane and I, drove up to Logan and met my other sister Marilyn at the Juniper Inn and had lunch and visited. We stayed in our booth and talked for more than 5 hours. The four of us don't get together as much as we would like and had a lot to catch up on. What a beautiful day. We had so much fun.

We were pretty brave and decided that we would all go to Costco with all of the kids. We had Luke 3, Abby almost 2, and the 3 babies. Actually we did great. None of the babies got hungry and none of them cried at all. We had one cart per baby. We were even able to stop at McDonalds and have lunch.

Another one of those really, really wonderful days. Little Beau Lewis Jenkins made his appearance September 29th at 1:13 am. He weighed 6 lbs 3 0z. Beau and his mom are both doing great. After seeing him a couple of times now, I think he looks a lot like his Dad's baby pictures. He is such a cutie!!! What fun it will be to have 3 little cousins to play together with!!!

I went and got the mail yesterday and I was thrilled to see that there was a package from Cambodia. Brent sent home a CD with a ton a pictures on it. I love so much to see him and see how happy he is! He must look so out of place being so tall. In his letters he talks of his love for these great people.

I haven't had the grandkids on here for a bit. They change so fast. Abby is blinking, but I thought brotherly, sister love was sweet, and Adam is growing so fast and smiling now all of the time.

Here we are at my nephew's wedding. My two sisters, my brother and my mom. Mom flew us to Texas for this wedding. What a great time had by all.
